Police condemn acts of vigilantism

EASTERN CAPE – The South African Police Service has strongly condemned any form of vigilante acts carried out by members of the community and warns that those involved will face the full wrath of the law if found perpetuating such unlawful acts.

This warning comes after a 28-year-old man was allegedly assaulted to death at Xonya A/A today Thursday 18 November 2021.

It is alleged that a family member went to look for his female cousin and found her at the victim’s homestead. She indicated that she was allegedly raped by the man.  The alarm was activated and the community mobilised and chased the victim into an open veld where he was beaten to death.

Both a case of rape and murder cases are under investigation and no arrest has yet been effected.

Police are urging the community not to conform to such violent acts instead to report perpetrators to them and allow the law to take its course.
