Police bust suspect with 82 kg of dagga, worth R123 000

NORTHERN CAPE – A 56-year-old man, is expected to appear in the Colesberg Court soon on a charge of dealing in dagga.

On Tuesday, 24 May 2022 at about 23:05 Colesberg police members acted on a tip-off regarding a man who was allegedly seen dropping dagga parcels at a truck driver for delivery in Cape Town.

Members of Colesberg flying Squad and Vehicle Identification Unit received a tip-off while they were conducting a static road block on the N1. According to the information the suspect was seen handing concealed dagga boxes to a truck driver at a filling station on the N1 in Colesberg.

The SAPS members tactically operationalised the information and pounced on the suspect.   

The suspect took the police back to the truck at the filling station, and upon searching the truck four boxes filled with concealed dagga, weighing 82 kilograms with an estimated street value of R123 000-00 was found inside the truck.   The dagga was to be delivered in Cape Town.

The District Commissioner of Pixley Ka Seme, Brigadier Nomana Adonis praised the community members who shared valuable information which led to the arrest of the suspect, and commended the members who were involved in the execution of the arrest.
