CAPE TOWN – Police interventions in crime affected areas resulted in the arrest of armed suspects and the seizure of three firearms.
Lentegeur police members spotted an unknown man running when he saw the patrol vehicle coming down Perseus Way in Woodlands on Friday, 25 March 2022, at around 20:55. The police members gave chase and apprehended the man and searched his Wendy house and recovered a revolver with no serial number. The male, aged 33, and a female, aged 29, were arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition
In an unrelated matter, members of the Maitland Flying Squad recovered a hijacked vehicle on Friday, 25 March 2022 in Delft. Upon recovering the vehicle, members conducted a search and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition. Five suspects between the ages of 16 and 30 were arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Meanwhile, Philippi Crime Prevention Unit was busy with patrols earlier today at around 01:40 when they spotted a group of males standing in Boundary Way. In full view of police officers one of the suspects disposed of an object. Upon inspection they confiscated a 9mm pistol without a serial number and ammunition. The 18-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in Mitchells Plain, Bellville and Athlone on the mentioned charges.
