WESTERN CAPE – Police members arrested suspects on Tuesday, 21 December 2021 when they were found in possession of firearms and ammunition for which they could not provide a valid licence.
Police members were busy with patrols near to Byron Road in Windsor Park. Kraaifontein, at around 01:20 when they spotted two suspects roaming the streets during the period of curfew. Upon searching them, they confiscated a Star 9mm pistol with ammunition. A 30 year old man and 28 year old women were arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated matter Western Cape Flying Squad members were busy with visible policing when they searched two address in Coffee Crescent in Wallacedene at around 15:30.The police members confiscated two zip guns and ammunition . Three suspects aged between 27 and 47 were arrested and detained on a charge of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.
Meanwhile members of Operation Lockdown II were busy with focused patrols in Wallacedene at about 15:35 when they spotted a suspicious looking male with a bag under his arm near to Nokwe and Nethob Street. As the police officers approached, the suspect dropped the bag and fled with police members in pursuit. The 33 year old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm when a rifle was found in the bag that was dropped by the suspect in full view of the police members.
Once charged, the suspects are expected to make a court appearance in the Blue Downs Magistrate court on the mentioned charges. The Provincial Police Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lt General Thembisile Patekile lauded the members for their commitment in their bid to ensure a safer environment for their community.
