The police have made a significant breakthrough in a house robbery case on a farm in Bloemspruit when they arrested a man in Makwane last night.
Police followed up on information about a man with an unlicensed firearm this morning (11 September 2024). They found the 37-year-old suspect in a shack in Makwane village in Qwaqwa with the unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Upon further investigation, police also found household and personal items belonging to a couple that were the victims of a house robbery at the farm in, Bloemspruit.
On 19 August 2024 at about midnight, the farm owner (62) heard a noise coming from the motion detector alarm that went off. He went outside and fired a warning shot and went to the houses of his employees to fetch them. On his way, he met unknown men with firearms. They shot him and disarmed him. They took him and his workers to his house where he found his wife (60) and daughter already tied up. The suspects ransacked the house and took cash, firearms, personal belongings and h
ousehold items. The victim and his wife were injured and taken to hospital.
Members of the Provincial Serious and Violence (Murder and Robbery) of Phuthaditjhaba, Phuthaditjhaba POP, Makwane detectives and Bethlehem DPCI Serious Corruption made the significant breakthrough when they arrested the suspect in the early hours of this morning. They confiscated a 7.65mm pistol and ammunition and some of the stolen items were identified by the victims as their property
The suspect will appear in court on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of presumably stolen property.
