ROADSIDE - The Rapid Rail Police Unit yet again removed an illegal firearm and ammunitions from the wrong hands after making an arrest of a suspect (34) from Kwazulu-Natal on the N3 between Warden and Roadside on his way to Gauteng Province.

On Thursday 03 March 2022 at approximately 13:55 the RRPU members were patrolling between Warden and Roadside when they stopped a suspicious white Isuzu double cab with ND registration. The driver was travelling from Durban to Gauteng province together with a passenger. The police requested to search both driver and passenger. During the search they found the passenger in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition inside his carry bag. It was a CZ83 cal.9 browning, black with serial numbers, two magazines and nine live rounds. The suspect produced an expired firearm licence which did not correspond with the firearm he carried.

The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear before the Vrede Magistrate court on Friday, 4 March 2022. The suspect is facing a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
