Swift response by the police units in Mangaung Metro enabled the arrest of the four suspects who broke into Ga-Sehunelo Post Office, Mafora Street – Bochabela outside Bloemfontein. Earlier today, 20 October 2021 at about 02:30, intelligence driven information regarding business burglary in progress was followed. Different specialised units such as K9 and Tactical Response Team were mobilised with other visible policing units from stations and reacted on the information.
On arrival in Mafora Street, a group of men started running in different directions. The suspects fired shots at the police and the police responded. One of the suspects was shot and he fell on the ground. The other suspect was arrested on the street opposite Mafora Street. The first suspect was found in possession of undisclosed amount of cash.
Members of Tactical Response Team extended the search of the identified getaway car, a Silver Audi A4 with Gauteng Province registration numbers towards Moshoeshoe Road. The vehicle was stopped near Kenworth Spar with two suspects inside. The police searched the vehicle and found a Z88 pistol with a magazine loaded with nine live rounds, an aluminium step ladder and a grinder blade with grass side-cutter.
The suspects aged between 44 and 47, were arrested and the Audi A4 confiscated. The injured suspects were taken to Hospital under police guard to receive medical attention. The four suspects are expected to appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Friday 22 October 2021.
