Pretoria: A suspect linked to a R16 million fleet tender awarded by the Emfuleni Local Municipality is set to appear before the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates Court on Monday, the South African Police Service (SAPS) said. This development marks a significant step in the ongoing investigation into the tender dispute.

According to South African Government News Agency, the 40-year-old suspect was apprehended by the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) on Thursday at a mall in Pretoria. The arrest follows a detailed investigation into the tender, which was meant for the delivery of 18 vehicles, including municipal trucks. However, only seven vehicles were delivered to the municipality, prompting further scrutiny.

The suspect faces charges of corruption, fraud, and theft. The arrest is part of a broader investigation that previously led to the arrest of the municipality's former fleet manager, who is currently out on bail. Both arrests are connected to the same investigation, underscoring the gravity of the case and the authorities' commitment to addressing alleged corruption within the municipality's dealings.
