POTCHEFSTROOM – Police in Schweizer-Reneke working together with local farmers arrested two suspects today for armed robbery that occurred at approximately 07:00.
It is alleged that security officials were outside one of the business premises in Schweizer-Reneke when three males approached and pointed them with firearms and a knife. The suspects then disarmed one of the security officials and robbed them of cash containers. According to information received, one of the suspects stabbed and caused damages to two security vehicle tyres before fleeing from the scene driving in a white Ford Ranger single cab vehicle.
Subsequent to a shoot-out that ensued after spotting of the suspects’ vehicle which later overturned on the Christiana road, one suspect was found lying dead on the ground with what appeared to be a bullet wound. Two other suspects were arrested while the fourth suspect ran into the bushes and evaded the arrest. Furthermore, a firearm and cash were found in the suspects’ vehicle.
The suspects, aged 29 and 33 are expected to appear soon in the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrates’ Court on a charge of armed robbery. The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) is investigating.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena applauded the police and the farmers for their collaboration which resulted in the arrest.
