VUWANI – Yesterday on Friday, 20 August 2021, the South African Police Service in Vuwani outside Thohoyandou embarked on a multifaceted crime awareness campaign in Mangilasi rivers of living water cathedral church in Vuwani.
The Station Communication Officer, Captain Chipangana along with Women’s Network Coordinator, Captain Muthambi, Acting Vispol Commander, Warrant Officer Mawela, Sector Commanders, Community Policing Forum members, South African National Defence Force (SANDF) members, joined by Department of Health and Social Development, Department of Education, Thohoyandou Victim Empowerment (VEP) Coordinator, flanked by Ward Councillors and grade eight and nine learners from Kolokoshani secondary school graced the event.
The main objective of the initiative was to celebrate Women’s Month and restore the girl child’s dignity.
Activities of the day included address by all departments as follows
Department of health and Social development
Drugs and alcohol abuse which destroy youth.
Teenage pregnancy.
Tuberculosis disease.
HIV and Aids as well as the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Department of Education and Thohoyandou Technical Vocational and Educational Training (TVET)
Discipline and respect.
Encouragement of learners to prioritize education and focus on their studies to brighten their future.
The South African Police Service Warrant Officer Mawela enlightened the community and learners on
Bullying.
Hitchhiking.
Gangsterism.
The consequences of having criminal records.
The consequences of committing crime.
Rape against minors.
Lastly he urged them to comply with Covid-19 regulations to avoid being in conflict with the law.
South African National Defence force appreciated cooperation from all departments and handed over gifts inclusive of sanitary towels to the female learners.
In conclusion the Ward Councillor Balibali encouraged learners to focus on their studies and abstain from drugs, alcohol and sexual activities as later addresses indicated. He condemned the rape incident at Ha-Nesengani where four minor children were raped and urged the community to cooperate with the police in the fight against crime.
