The newly appointed City of Cape Town Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Councillor Rob Quintas today visited the new MyCiTi bus stop in Pioneer Valley, an affordable housing development in the new Rivergate precinct adjacent to Parklands. The MyCiTi bus service recently introduced the Hawking bus stop to the 214 feeder route, which operates between Dunoon and the Blouberg beachfront area.
‘As the new Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, I wanted to go out and experience the efficiency of the MyCiTi bus service in the Blaauwberg region, especially the feeder route system which serves the residents of Dunoon; Parklands; Table View and Sunningdale. I boarded the bus in the morning, used my myconnect card, and interacted with some of the commuters. I can honestly say that I am very pleased about this addition to the MyCiTi feeder network. It provides the new residents of Pioneer Valley with direct access to this reliable and affordable bus service which has a thorough network throughout the area with stops close to schools and commercial areas.
‘Pioneer Valley is an exciting new development that we look forward to serving. This is another example of how the MyCiTi network is aligned with the development in the area and how we have responded to the needs of the community,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Councillor Rob Quintas.
As of 28 August, some buses on the 214 feeder route are now connecting Pioneer Valley residents to the trunk routes that travel to various business districts in Cape Town. To view the times these buses are scheduled to leave and return to the Hawking Stop on Discovery Drive,
Residents of Pioneer Valley can catch the bus from the new Hawking stop and transfer at Table View station to routes serving other destinations along the MyCiTi network, from Atlantis in the north to the CBD and all the way to Hout Bay in the south.
This new route will initially run as a limited service to test demand in Pioneer Valley and the Hawking stop will also make use of a temporary pole to confirm that it is best placed to serve this growing area.
‘While travelling on the route through Parklands this morning, some of the commuters shared with me how convenient the MyCiTi app is and how they plan their journeys and rely on the real-time timetables and being able to check their card balances,’ said Councillor Quintas.
New passengers need a myconnect card loaded with value to pay for fares which will be calculated based on the distance travelled. A new card will cost the commuter R35. Residents should note that the Caltex Fresh Stop in Parklands is currently the nearest retailer where cards can be bought and mover points packages starting at R20 can be loaded.
Commuters are advised to use the MyCiTi trip planner for suggestions on what times to catch the bus, what routes to take, and any transfers they need to make to get to their final destination.
