OMUTHIYA – In response to critical water shortages in parts of the Oshikoto Region, Oshikoto Regional Council spokesperson Petrus Nehale has issued a call to community members to register for water tanker services.
According to NAMPA, the Regional Council has formulated a long-term strategy to tackle the challenge of accessing potable water in the region. “We have devoted 60 percent of our income from local authorities and sales of electricity by Nored and Cenored towards this goal,” he stated.
Nehale, in a press statement released on Thursday, specifically addressed the residents of Okankolo, Eengodi, and Nehale Lyampingana constituency villages. He urged those experiencing water shortages and not currently part of the system to register at their local constituency offices promptly to receive water supplies.
Nehale also mentioned that the Council has set aside N.dollars 634,615 in the current financial year for rural development programs, which include the construction of short water pipelines. This initiative is part of the Council’s broader effort to enhance rural infrastructure and address water scarcity.
Further, Nehale emphasized the Council’s intention to work closely with the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform (MAWLR) to implement short, medium, and long-term solutions to the water supply issues in the region.
In a bid to provide immediate relief to the affected communities, Nehale revealed that, in collaboration with MAWLR, the Council has secured 10 water tanker trucks dedicated to emergency water supply. These trucks are aimed at alleviating the immediate needs of communities grappling with water shortages.
Nehale concluded by asking community members for patience as the Council works to resolve the potable water challenges in the region.
