The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshikoto Region are on a journey to take services to rural people and encourage them to become informers, reservists, and join the women and men network.
NamPol Oshikoto Regional Commander Theopoline Kalompho-Nashikaku during a community and police meeting held in Omboto village in the Nehale Lyampingana Constituency on Saturday said they want to educate the community to stay away from criminal activities.
She also said they want to patrol the area and the purpose of the Oshikoto Mobile Police is to take police services to the people living in rural areas and enhance stakeholder engagement as demanded by pillar 2 of the NamPol Strategic Plan.
‘We execute charge office duties, provide feedback and progress updates of previously reported cases in that general area, and provide new trends and tips on emerging and dominant crimes in the region such as rape, stock theft, scams, gender-based violence, and assault,’ Kalompho-Nashikaku said.
She said that NamPol official
s participate in the community’s local sport codes such as Owela, Amagusa, and volleyball to strengthen the NamPol and community relationship.
Kalompho-Nashikaku also highlighted that they are planning to set up police stations at Omboto and Oniipa by 2025 and 2026 and they are determined to take policing to a high level amidst limited resources.
A total of 93 people from Omboto, Oshana Shatemba, Ekonghola, Omwifi, and Oshinanyiki attended the meeting, whereby 35 young people from these villages joined the women and men network.
Omboto village headman, Elijah Andjaba said that they have a huge problem with stock theft, gender-based violence, harassment, and child neglect.
‘I am so happy that the police are opening a station here as our village is dominated by stock theft and rape cases,’ said Andjaba.
