Opuwo Football Academy ‘ s Under – 13 ( U – 13 ) and U – 15 boys swept the recently concluded Otjiwarongo Sports Academy Youth Cup competition at Paresis Sports Ground , meant to develop and display young football potential . The boys from Opuwo , who emerged just over a year ago , won both divisions of the tournament , winning gold medals in the U – 13 and U – 15 categories . It was the second time Marco Torres Ruundu , a former Orlando Pirates , Sport Klub Windhoek ( SKW ), Rundu Chiefs , and Julinho Sporting player who has shown to be the best fit for the job owing to his expertise in the Namibia Premier League , led the young lads . Following their victory , academy chairperson Jeura Tjauira told Nampa the squad performed admirably and they want the boys to compete in additional competitions to raise their morale and earn enough experience for national and international games . This was the boys ‘ second competition after falling two months earlier at the annual Ramblers Youth competition , which Tjauira
described as a stepping stone for the young players . ‘ You can see that there was a huge improvement and the boys want to play more tournaments ,’ he added . The Under – 13 team fought hard on their way to the final , defeating Gobabis Boys 2 – 0 in their first match and Brothers FC 2 – 1 in the semi – final . The final game was the most challenging , as they faced Coca – Cola , a squad with greater strength and equal prowess . However , following the final whistle , the boys from Opuwo emerged victorious , winning the game 2 – 1 and collecting their first major championship . The under – 15 boys faced a formidable challenge : five games in two days . The boys defeated Scorpion 1 – 0 in the opening game , then swept Rush Hour 3 – 0 . The U – 15 team went on to defeat Gobabis Boys 4 – 0 . Their semi – final match against Cosmos finished in a goalless stalemate , but the boys from Opuwo had the last laugh in the penalty shootout , winning 7 – 6 . Opuwo Academy U – 15 was declared the winner after defeating De
Dunne 3 – 0 in the final of the competition which featured 57 U – 11 , U – 15 and U – 17 boys and girls teams . Otjiwarongo Sports Academy won the girls ‘ U – 17 title , while Lindy Cosoms won the boys ‘ U – 17 category .
