Operation Vhuthu Hawe clamped down on drug peddlers in ZF Mgcawu District

KIMBERLEY – Members of the Upington K9 Unit and Highway Patrol arrested two suspects for dealing in dagga.

On Tuesday, 18 October 2022 the team operationalized the information subsequent to receiving intelligence about drug dealing activities on two separate premises in Rosedale in Upington.

Simultaneous premises were raided at identified premises in Rosedale.

Dagga worth more than R21 000 -00 was found on the first and at the second location dagga with an estimated value of R25 000 -00 was found.

During the operation the team conducted stop and searches including static road blocks on the N14 and N10, with the focus to curb the illegal transportation of illicit goods, stolen vehicles and stock theft.

Traffic fines amounting to  R10 000-00  for motorists who  contravened the Road Traffic Act  ranging from driving unroadworthy motor vehicles and   driving without valid driver’s license.

More than 200 vehicles were stopped and searched including 150 persons.

One motorist was arrested subsequent to be found driving while under the influence of alcohol or intoxicating substance.

Five undocumented persons were arrested and charged for contravening the Immigration Act.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Upington Magistrate’s Court soon.

The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola applauded the team for bringing the perpetrators of crime to book.
