Members attached to the Illicit Mining Combating team have arrested a 44-year-old male suspect for possession of suspected Gold Bearing Material earlier today. The team operationalised intelligence that led them to an identified house in Albany, Meloding near Virginia. Gold bearing material, gold processing equipment including a bottle full of corrosive liquid suspected to be acid were seized.
The policing actions continued in Welkom area. The Illicit Mining Prevention team followed information that led them to Moeletsi Hostel. The team closed down Zama-zama illegal activities in K-Section and seized Gold Bearing Material, four phendukas and other gold processing equipment.
