Operation Shanela remain purposeful in squeezing crime

Operation Shanela, (Kukula) the weekly multidisciplinary high-density operation that commenced on Monday, 14 October 2024, until 20 October 2024, a total of 470 suspects were arrested across the province for various offenses.

During operation, two firearms with 22 rounds of ammunition, 1,740kg of Dagga, 26,46g of Nyaope, 1051 counterfeit goods, R5360 cash, and two stolen motor vehicles were recovered.

Police actions executed through the operation include roadblocks, high visibility patrols, stop and searches, tracing of wanted suspects, and compliance inspections, amongst other duties.

Suspects were arrested for possession of firearms (two), dealing in drugs (five), illegal dealing in liquor (17), possession of counterfeit goods (four), murder (three), robbery business (five), and rape with 10 arrests.

The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the arrests and applauded the partnership between police and other law enforcement agencies.

The suspects h
ave already started to appear in different Magistrate’s Courts across the province.
