WESTERN CAPE – Police members attached to Operation Restore made an impact when they arrested suspects in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The police members conducted stop and search operations on Friday 23 September 2022 in Gugulethu. They responded to information and drove to an address in NY 84. Upon arrival at the address they searched the premises with the owner at their side. They confiscated a consignment of drugs and dagga. The 54-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of dealing in drugs.
In an unrelated incident the platoon posted in Nyanga policing precinct on Saturday 24 September 2022, followed up on information at around 00:30 and searched a house in Ngcingci Street in Lower Cross Roads, Philippi East. During the search the police members found different calibre ammunition. The owner of the house could not provide a valid license to be in possession of the ammunition. The 26-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of unlicensed ammunition.
Whilst busy with patrols in Khayelitsha on Saturday 24 September 2022 at around 01:30, the members searched an address in Ndabambi Street, in Site B. They confiscated a 9mm black Taurus pistol and ammunition. A 36-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone and Khayelitsha Magistrate’s court on the mentioned charges.
