NELSPRUIT – Police are on a mission to address drug trafficking and information gathered from both members of the public as well as from the Intelligence community is operationalised which have shown to yield good successes.
In the early morning of 23 September 2022, Crime Intelligence members from Head Office, as well as from K9 Unit in Middelburg and Delmas SAPS conducted an operation in Delmas whereby certain premises were identified to be used for drug trafficking.
During the said operation four suspects aged between 19 and 29 were arrested. The men and women in Blue further seized the following items: 196 zip lock bags containing suspected Rock Cocaine, 232 pinches of suspected Heroin, 11 zip lock bags containing suspected Crystal Metheny, seven (07) bags of dagga as well as cash. The total value of the alleged drugs confiscated is at about R31480-00.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Delmas District Court on Monday, 26 September 2022 facing charges of being found in possession of suspected drugs.
Meanwhile an alleged drug peddler, Nkosithandile Lungelo Miya (28) appeared in the Ga-Nala Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 22 September 2022 after being arrested by the police at Kriel also on similar charges of possession of suspected drugs. He was granted bail of R500-00 and this has given investigators an ample time as well as opportunity to prepare for a case.
According to the report, on Wednesday, 21 September 2022 members of the police were busy conducting their duties of patrolling the area when they received information about a man who was selling drugs at a certain place in Kriel. The information was then followed by the members who found the man in possession of about 42 sachets of suspected Nyaope (drugs) wrapped with small brown plastics, three (03) suspected Rock (drugs) wrapped with a small silver solid foils as well as three (03) suspected Crystal drugs in a small transparent plastics.
The suspect was then arrested and charged accordingly hence his court appearance. The case was postponed to 22 March 2023.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has commended members of the public for the valuable information that they continue to provide to the police about drug peddling or crime in general. The General reassured the public that police will not stop the fight against drug trafficking until all streets in the province are clean from drugs.
