WINDHOEK: Ongwediva City emerged victorious in the youth final of the Ondjondjo Annual Sports Tournament, securing a win against Ondjondjo A at Ondangwa’s Andiba Toivo Ya Toivo soccer field.

According to the Namibia Press Agency (Nampa), The Oshana Village Based Football League (OVBFL) Chairperson Herman Paulus confirmed that the tournament hosted 18 youth teams and six veteran teams, engaging in a spirited football competition from Friday to Sunday. In the veterans’ finals, Saffile Legends clinched the title against Cairo Legends in a penalty shootout after a goalless match.

Paulus expressed satisfaction with the tournament’s reach and its role in providing teams with the opportunity for exposure and fitness, as well as a platform to win substantial prizes. He mentioned that such events are pivotal for team empowerment and community engagement in sports.

In an interview, the spokesperson for Ongwediva City, Mbango Paulus, revealed that their win over Omashaka was hard-fought and attributed their preparedness to thorough organization and management. He further outlined the team’s ambition to top the North West first division and ultimately gain promotion to the Debmarine Namibia Premiership.

The Ondjondjo Annual Sports Tournament was financially backed by Honey Moon business complex from Omashaka, which contributed a total of N.dollars 50,000, including the cost of trophies and medals.
