Ondangwa, Namibia - The Eleventh Morning Stars Sport Field in Ondangwa is gearing up to host the fifth edition of the Okapya Annual Soccer Tournament, scheduled from 21 to 24 December. Tournament organizer Sandroa Ithana announced the upcoming event, highlighting its significance in uniting football enthusiasts and reducing crime rates during the holiday season.
According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA), the tournament serves as an opportunity for teams to scout for players and keeps young people engaged during the festive period. This year’s tournament will feature two categories: one for youth and another for veterans. The winning team in the youth category will receive N.dollars 12,000, a floating trophy, gold medals, and a football kit. The second and third runners-up will be awarded N.dollars 6,000 and N.dollars 3,000, respectively, along with silver and bronze medals, and kits.
In the veteran category, the champions will receive N.dollars 5,000, gold medals, a floating trophy, and soccer kit. The second-place team will get N.dollars 3,000 and the third-placed team N.dollars 2,000, along with corresponding medals and football kits.
Ithana also mentioned that the tournament provides a platform for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to sell their products, with stalls available for N.dollars 500. Last year's champions were Helao Nafidi Legends in the veteran category and Omandindi FC from Windhoek in the youth category.
