WESTERN CAPE - Efforts by Flying Squad members to bring perpetrators of the law to book were rewarded with the arrest of four suspects yesterday, 16 August 2022, in two separate interventions. Yesterday afternoon the members were patrolling the vicinity of an Intercape depot in Bishop Lavis due to the spate of recent attacks on the bus service, when their attention was drawn to a suspicious vehicle. This prompted the members to approach the occupants and conduct a search, which led to the discovery of an unlicensed .22 pistol and ammunition. Three suspects aged between 30 and 46 were arrested and detained until their court appearance in Bishop Lavis on Friday, 19 August 2022.
In an unrelated incident, Flying Squad members operationalized information about an Audi which was hijacked in Gauteng during July this year which led them to an address in Parow. The premises was searched which resulted in the discovery of the hijacked Audi and two other presumed stolen vehicles. In addition to the vehicles, the members also confiscated a large consignment of liquor, three television sets, one computer and 73 packets of heroin. A 23-year-old suspect was arrested for the possession of the presumed stolen property and the drugs and will make his court appearance in Parow on Thursday, 18 August 2022.
