Two off duty police officials arrested two suspects aged 28 and 31 years for possession of abalone worth more than R43 000-00 on N2 next to Cintsa yesterday, 04 September 2024. While the two Police Officials were off duty, they received information about a vehicle that is driving on N2 transporting abalone to East London. They then wore their uniform and place themselves on duty. They requested thr assistance from the nearby farmers. Police pulled off the alleged vehicle next to Cintsa turn off, and upon searching it, they found the poached abalone and diving suits. Police seized 187 abalone units, diving suits, and the vehicle as it was used in the commission. The abalone was handed over to the Department of Forestry, Fishery, and the Environment. These suspects are due to appear at East London Magistrate court tomorrow, 06 September 2024. The District Commissioner Major General Ngangema Xakavu appreciated the efforts of members who didn't ignore the information when it was shared with them, though they were off duty.
