Off duty police officer saves a life

An off duty police officer sprung into action when he heard screams and saved a woman from drowning on Wednesday, 16 February 2022 at about 20:15 in Heidedal.

Upon arriving at home and alighting from his vehicle, Sgt Deon Dampies heard a woman’s screams. The member started running towards the direction where he heard the sound and discovered that it was coming from a quarry behind Heidedal Shopping Mall. The determined Sergeant didn’t think twice before jumping into the water and pulled her out. Upon hearing that the woman’s breathing was shallow, he started performing CPR and continued until the ambulance arrived. Shewas rushed to the nearby hospital for medical attention and is recovering well.
