O Kae Molao operations continue to yield positive results as more than 1200 suspects are arrested over the weekend in Gauteng

PARKTOWN – In a continuous effort to both clamp down on crime and ensure that communities continue to adhere to the adjusted level three lockdown restrictions, the acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Tommy Mthombeni and Johannesburg District Commissioner Major General Max Masha were joined by MEC for Community Safety Ms Faith Maziboko when they led an intensified O Kae Molao Operation in Eldorado Park, South of Johannesburg on the evening of Saturday 26 June 2021, as a result a total of 59 suspects were arrested for various offences including failure to adhere to the Disaster Management Act.

Furthermore, police shut down two liquor outlets and arrested owners for dealing in liquor without valid licenses and for contravening the Disaster Management Act.

Other suspects were arrested for offences that include driving while under the influence of alcohol, contravening Disaster Management Act and possession of dangerous weapon.

“These operations will continue until our communities understand the danger of this pandemic and respect the lockdown restrictions that accompany it” said the acting Provincial Commissioner Major Tommy Mthombeni while police were closing one of the liquor outlets.

A total of 125 suspects were traced for various crimes and arrested by detectives prior to the operation.

Parallel operations were conducted in other four districts where 533 people were arrested in Ekurhuleni, 300 in Tshwane, 105 in West Rand and 121 in Sedibeng.

All suspects are expected to appear before the various courts in Gauteng on Monday, 28 June 2021.
