The Nso Development Association, NSO’DA addressed a letter to the Bishop of Kumbo, Rev. George Nkuo on what they termed ‘shocking desecrations of our culture and tradition’.
The June 4 letter, decries that enculturation of the Roman Catholic church in the Diocese of Kumbo has generated abuse for the Nso culture.
‘The few instances that have caught our attention are moot shows in the church or Catholic premises of our highly cherished sacred masquerades, like the Wanmabuh, the Yee Ngwerong, the Kikum, the Kirang Ke Ngiri, etc.’
The letter stated that these abuses had taken place under the watchful eyes of the prelate, prompting a need for urgent redress.
‘Another issue … is the red feathering of a lav-samba by the commanders of the Samba Manjong houses attached to the Catholic churches, which we believe should be left to the two Mfoomis, Gham and Bah, and not to His Eminence (should have been lordship) to be putting the feather on the cap.’
The NSODA has called on the Bishop to caution and counsel his flo
ck in order not to bridge the Nso culture in the cause of ‘enculturation’. Otherwise, the church has been promised legal action.
