Cape town: The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) recently appointed Administrator, Professor Hlengani Mathebula, will lead the presentation of the NSFAS Stabilisation Report to the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Buti Kgwaridi Manamela.

According to South African Government News Agency, the Administrator is mandated to submit to the Minister, within three months of appointment, an initial stabilisation plan addressing matters including, but not limited to: audit remedial priorities; consequence management priorities; ICT and data-integration priorities; immediate operational continuity; and student accommodation compliance.

Mathebula, who took on the role in May 2026, is tasked with ensuring the stabilisation, operational continuity, and institutional renewal of NSFAS. His presentation of the stabilisation plan, set for Tuesday, 4 August 2026, will outline a series of interventions and priorities aimed at improving the scheme's operations.

The plan will detail the actions to be taken in the coming period, highlighting identified priorities and Mathebula's strategy for effective implementation. Additionally, he will provide an update on NSFAS's performance during the first 90 days under his administration, covering aspects like student funding administration, governance, and financial management improvements, as well as key interventions to enhance service delivery for students and higher education institutions.
