The SAPS in the Northern Cape led by the Acting Provincial Commissioner, Maj Gen Joey Kers accompanied by the MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Ms Nomandla Bloem addressed a joint parade on 31 December 2021 in Galeshewe. Members of the local Community Policing Forum and neighborhood watch groups also participated in the Safer Festive Season operations.
The show of force was to assure the residents of the greater Kimberley that the police is ready to police any eventuality leading up to the New Year celebrations and beyond. The joint parade was addressed by the Acting Provincial Commissioner, Maj Gen Joey Kers and the MEC, Ms Nomandla Bloem who delivered messages of support to the members who performed duties.
The Acting Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing, Brig Hennie van Rensburg as well as the Frances Baard District Commissioner, Maj Gen Johan Bean formed part of the Provincial Management who also executed operational duties alongside the members.
Simultaneous operations were conducted in the five districts namely Frances Baard, John Taolo Gaetsewe, ZF Mgcawu, Namakwa and Pixely Ka-Seme districts respectively.
Actions included intensified blue light patrols through Galeshewe, Kagisho, Roodepan, Colville and Greenpoint.
Visits to night clubs, parks and recreational areas and liquor premises were conducted to ensure compliance.
Stop and search actions and VCP’s were also conducted addressing drunken driving and traffic violations.
Stern warnings were issued to residents to refrain from discharging fireworks in Municipal areas, warning them that they will face prosecution if apprehended for contravening Municipal Bylaws.
Disruptive actions of this nature will continue and the residents are assured that the police will adopt a zero tolerance approach throughout this period.
