ONDANGWA — The National Housing Enterprise (NHE) in Namibia has officially handed over 24 newly constructed houses to beneficiaries in Ondangwa, at a total cost of N.dollars 12 million. The handover event took place on Tuesday, marking a significant step in addressing housing needs in the region.

According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA), Urban and Rural Development Minister Erastus Uutoni, speaking at the ceremony, emphasized the importance of housing as a key development priority in Namibia. He highlighted the government’s belief in the necessity of decent shelter as a basic human need. Uutoni called on local authorities to offer land to NHE at the lowest possible prices, which would help reduce construction costs and make houses more affordable for lower-income groups.

Ondangwa Town Mayor Paavo Amwele announced that the town council has allocated an additional 64 erven to NHE for the construction of more houses, in a continued effort to meet the housing needs of the community. He noted that the area, known as Ondiyala, is fully serviced with about 349 erven available. Amwele commended NHE for their effective use of land and contribution to housing development.

This handover follows NHE’s recent success in Omuthiya, where 50 houses were handed over on Monday, and precedes another planned handover of 70 houses in Okahao on Thursday.
