Pretoria: To bolster ongoing efforts to curb crime and ensure increased police visibility, the eThekwini Metro Police in KwaZulu-Natal has procured an additional 146 vehicles to be added to their fleet. The new vehicles are part of a broader initiative to enhance law enforcement efficiency across the city.

According to South African Government News Agency, the procurement of these vehicles aligns with the city’s recently announced plans to implement a Smart Policing System, which aims to fast track crime reports and improve response times. The eThekwini Metro Police spokesperson, Colonel Boysie Zungu, detailed the composition of the new fleet, including 50 Volkswagen (VW) Golf GTIs, 29 Ford Rangers, 30 Isuzu bakkies, and 37 VW Polos.

Colonel Zungu praised the municipal council’s decision, emphasizing that the new vehicles would significantly support the Metro Police’s mission to maintain safety for all city dwellers, businesses, and tourists. He also hinted at additional crime prevention measures set to be
introduced soon, particularly in anticipation of the increased number of visitors during the upcoming festive season.

The initiative reflects a proactive approach by eThekwini Metro Police to strengthen their operational capabilities and ensure a safer environment in one of South Africa’s prominent urban centers.
