The City of Cape Town’s Road Infrastructure Management Department will commence with the resurfacing and road marking of roads in Lansdowne, including Lansdowne (Main) Road. The work is planned to commence in the coming week until 17 June 2022, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather. Read more below:

Work will take place Monday to Friday between 07:00 and 17:00.

Road resurfacing will be implemented on the following roads and streets:

• Lansdowne (Main) Road between Rouxton Road and Wetton Circle (night works, as required)

• Blomvlei Road between Lansdowne Road and Jan Smuts Drive

• Roy Road between Wetton Road and Lansdowne Road

• Gordon Road between Tolerance Road and Roy Road

• St Joseph’s Road between Lansdowne Road and Hoek Street

• Hoek Street between St Joseph’s Road and Cavell Road

• Lotus Road between Lansdowne Road and Clarewyn Road

• Drayton Road between Lansdowne Road and Clarewyn Road

All road markings within the Lansdowne suburb will be repainted.

‘We are doing all we can to live up to our commitment to ensure that Cape Town’s roads are well maintained and durable. Another important goal is to ensure that our residents and motorists are safe, while on the road. Lansdowne (Main) Road carries a lot of traffic coming from Khayelitsha, Gugulethu and Philippi, among other places. In order to manage the risk of severe congestion along Lansdowne (Main) Road during the daytime, some of the work will be undertaken at night, when the traffic volumes are at its lowest. The night work will be done between 18:30 and 05:30 in the morning,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

Traffic moving in both directions will be affected; however, flag personnel will regulate traffic in one direction at a time.

‘Thus, we appeal to all residents using this stretch of road to please work with us by ensuring that they comply with the signage displayed around the construction site, and to abide by the flag personnel’s instructions. We need residents’ support to prevent delays and to finish the project on time. We are keeping all intersections open during construction, except during night works, where the risk of severe congestion is low.

‘We apologise for the inconvenience that this construction may cause, but we assure that you will enjoy the benefits afterwards,’ said Councillor Quintas.
