The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate will be resurfacing sections of major roads in Bellville and surrounds from the end of November until February 2023. One of the roads to be worked on is Old Paarl Road (R101) which carries a high volume of traffic in the morning and afternoon peak hour periods. The work will have an impact on traffic flow and commuters are requested to plan accordingly.
The maintenance work involves eight roads where the old, existing road surfaces will be milled and replaced with a new asphalt surface. All-in-all about 3,4km of road surface will be replaced by the Roads Infrastructure Management Department.
The following roads will be resurfaced:
Old Paarl Road North (R101) from La Belle Road to the R300 in Oakglen
Old Paarl Road (R101) from De La Hay Avenue to St Harrod Drive in Blommendal
Old Paarl Road (R101) from Bill Bezuidenhout Avenue to Quarry Road in Belgravia
Uys Krige Drive from Hannes Louw Drive to Agulhas Close in Plattekloof
Tierberg Road (M29) from Frans Conradie Drive to Friesland Street in Fairfield Estate
Frans Conradie Drive from Tallent Road to McIntyre Street in Churchill Estate
The intersection of Giel Basson Drive (M12) and Rothschild Boulevard in Monte Vista
Work will take place as follows:
From the end of November 2022 until February 2023, if all goes as planned
From 07:30 to 17:00 on weekdays
At night, from 19:00 to 06:00, when required
Lane closures may be implemented with flag personnel guiding road users
‘Ongoing road maintenance is a critical component of ensuring the longevity of our vast road network. Some of the roads to be resurfaced count among the busiest in Cape Town, thus I want to forewarn residents to please take note and avoid these roads and areas as far as possible for the duration of the project. Once done, we will all benefit, but unfortunately, while ongoing, roadworks always come with some level of inconvenience. We are hoping to get the work done within 40 working days, pending any delays or inclement weather,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
