The Netball Quad Series serves as a preparation tournament for four of the top five ranked nations ahead of Africa’s first ever Netball World Cup in July 2023.
National netball team, the SPAR Proteas, will be battling it out with top ranked teams England, New Zealand and Australia during the four-day series.
The Netball Quad Series takes place at the CTICC from Saturday, 21 January 2023 to Wednesday, 25 January 2023.
‘The City of Cape Town is pleased to play host to the Netball Quad Series in partnership with Netball South Africa. Tournaments like the Quad Series provide both an economic boost to our city, and the perfect opportunity for teams to refine their gameplans ahead of the Netball World Cup set to take place in Cape Town later this year. On behalf of the City, it is my pleasure to warmly welcome the South African, New Zealand, Australian and English netball teams to the Mother City. We are thrilled to host you in our beautiful city,’ said Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis.
All teams will be in action daily with games at 16:00 and 18:00 on tournament days.
South Africa, ranked number five in the world, will kick off the tournament against New Zealand, ranked number two, on Saturday, before the top ranked Australia plays against world number three England in the later match.
‘Cape Town has become the home of Netball, having hosted and supported a number of international tournaments in the lead up to the Netball World Cup. We are confident that just as we hosted a successful 2019 Africa Netball Cup and the 2021 SPAR Challenge, the Netball Quad Series will also be a world-class event.
‘We are excited and ready to host one of the biggest netball events on the international calendar. This tournament also gives us the opportunity to test our readiness and our plans for the Netball World Cup. We believe this event will also reaffirm this city’s capacity to stage major events, having earned the title of the World’s Leading Festival and Event Destination three times in the last five years,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
