Nelson Mandela Bay Ditrict Commissioner kickstarts Spiritual Crime Prevention

GQEBERHA – Spiritual Crime Prevention has been identified as one of the projects earmarked by SAPS which is intended to address the social ills which are contributors to more crimes in the country.

On Sunday, 17 July 2022. The Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) District Commissioner, Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata, senior management of the NMB District, SAPS Gelvandale management and the Gelvandale CPF visited the Word of Light Christian Ministries in Virgo Street, Helenvale. Maj Gen Ncata also used this platform to introduce himself as the newly appointed Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner however the main purpose was to enlighten the community about crime and their involvement in fighting crime through spiritual intervention.

In his address to the congregation, Maj Gen Ncata highlighted how police and faith based organisation can work in unison for the greater good of the community.

Maj Gen Ncata emphasised the need for positive change in Nelson Mandela Bay. ‘The SAPS alone cannot win the war against evil elements of crime and criminality. We need mediation by our religious leaders especially in turning youth away from delving in criminal activities. We also urge the parents and elderly people to ‘be the eyes’ and ears for the police and to report criminal behaviour with the aim of restoring peace within the communities. We cannot allow gangsters and criminals to be in charge of the areas. We need to keep our teenagers and minors away from bars and taverns where they are manipulated and abused. Parents, you must take responsibility for your children. The SAPS should not only stop criminals from selling drugs, but also need to stop the people buying drugs from drug dealers,’ stated Maj Gen Ncata.

He also mentioned that the mobilisation of the community is paramount in the fight against crime. He pointed out that prayers by the various religious fraternities should make criminals to realise that they are making mistakes and that through divine intervention and prayers, crime can be reduced.

The District Commissioner will be visiting other religious fraternities in 17 other station precincts in the coming weeks.
