Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner calls on government entities to open and serve communities

The Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner Major General Ncata is calling upon the staff and personnel of the affected school and clinic in Kwazakhele to open and service the residents as police are on the ground to ensure safety of all citizens. This comes after reports that the school and the clinic were closed at KwaZakhele, Gqeberha. Police can confirm that there is neither intelligence report that indicates any threat of crime, nor reported crime in the mentioned school and the clinic in Kwazakele in the last seven days. The SAPS in the Nelson Mandela Bay District have joined hands with other stakeholders to conduct high density operations in ensuring that we combat and prevent the occurrence of serious and violent crimes in the District. Last week, all the police stations within the Bay were prioritised and there were also several community engagements that were conducted with the aim of increasing awareness, and to curb incidents of extortion and to market the Provincial Extortion hotline number 0 82 387 1561. Apart from the awareness campaigns, SAPS Nelson Mandela District also received more boots on the ground from various units across the Eastern Cape, who were assigned to assist in intensifying efforts to combat crime in the District. These members are deployed in all the crime hotspot areas with the aim to eradicate and prevent crime in the most affected policing precincts. Joint crime prevention operations are also conducted on a regular basis to enhance police visibility. Major General Vuyisile Ncatha urges the community to refrain from spreading false information, and fake news, as that is causing public panic. Police will do everything in their powers to ensure that the much needed services are not affected, and simultaneously fight violent and serious crimes in hot-spot areas. "Working together in the fight against crime is the aid to squeeze crime," concluded Maj Gen Ncata. Source: South African Police Service
