Namibia Media Trust #YouthQuake Namibia programme coordinator, Jessica |Uiras, has said this year’s event will be exciting and educational to encourage youth participation, collaboration and positive development in Namibia.
The event will take place at the Gateway Conference Centre in Windhoek on Saturday.
In an interview with Nampa on Thursday, |Uiras said the theme of this year’s #YouthQuake centres around the impact of the digital divide on youth democratic participation in Namibia. It aims to address several crucial topics, including the implications of artificial intelligence and the digital world on social interaction, the potential accessibility issues arising from technological advancements, and the role of digital inclusion in fostering youth engagement, political awareness, and active citizenship.
“It is an opportunity for the youth to actively participate in democratic discourse, effectively address youth-based issues, and engage in initiatives that drive positive social change. The conference will provide a free, safe and inclusive platform for young people to express themselves and contribute to society,” |Uiras said.
She added that participants at the event will discuss the influence of social media and online platforms on shaping youth political attitudes and behaviours. The event will also highlight the importance of online civic engagement platforms in facilitating youth dialogue, collaboration and participation in electoral processes and policies.
The first #YouthQuake Namibia event was held on 29 September 2018.
