Murderer sentenced to ten years imprisonment

The Northern Cape Provincial Management welcomed the ten year jail term handed down on Simon Witbooi (36) for the murder of a 19-year-old man.

Simon was found guilty and convicted in the Hometown Regional Court on Thursday, 02 December 2021. During the trial it came to light that on Sunday, 06 June 2021, Simon and the victim were involved in an argument, which ended fatally. Simon fatally stabbed the victim on the upper body multiple times, and he succumbed to the stabbed wounds sustained. The incident occurred on a farm near Strydenburg and the accused was arrested shortly after the incident.

The investigating officer successfully opposed bail, and the accused was remanded in police custody until the trial was finalised and sentenced. Simon was found guilty as charged, and was convicted to ten years direct imprisonment on count of murder. The Hopetown Regional Court, declared him unfit to possess a firearm.

The Northern Cape Provincial Management applauded the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Francisco Naude for the excellent investigative work, and the National Prosecuting Authority and Department of Justice for removing the murderer from society
