The accused arrested for the murder of Lebohang Ditabe, has been sentenced in the Odendaalsrus, Regional Court.
Mvola Johannes Mbasa, (56), was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for murder. In June 2023, Lebohang Ditabe was fatally stabbed with a knife by the accused.
It is alleged that on Friday, 16 June 2023, the deceased was at his place of residence at Kalkkuil Village, Odendaalsrus, with his wife and the accused whom the couple was accommodating since January 2023. The couple then got into a verbal argument after which the wife of the deceased went outside for a few minutes leaving Lebohang with the accused who was holding their eight-months-old baby.
Upon the wife’s return to the house she found her husband bleeding profusely and holding his hands against his chest. When she asked her husband what had transpired, he told her that the accused had stabbed him with a knife for no reason. She ran outside asking for help and the accused fled the scene.
The following day, on Saturday,
17 June 2023, Detective Sergeant, Modise Kotsi of the Odendaalrus Detective Services followed up on information that led to the swift arrest of the accused.
The accused was recently sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment.
