MTHATHA – SAPS Senior Management in the Eastern Cape expressed their excitement and satisfaction after witnessing successes yielded by multi-dimensional operations in Mthatha this week.
As part of fighting substance abuse, which is viewed a contributing factor to Gender Based Violence and Femicide, foot soldiers managed to seize drugs in various hotspot and notorious areas around Mthatha in the OR Tambo District. An amount of cash was also confiscated together with loads of drugs, inclusive of tik and dagga valued at thousands of rands. A number of suspects were apprehended, and are expected to appear before court soon.
The team responsible for GBVF related cases, led by FCS Unit, has also visited a number of victims to ensure progress on the cases, and the team has managed to arrest a number of GBVF suspects.
Various schools have been visited around Mthatha for GBVF Awareness Campaign. Random search, that ran concurrently with the awareness, yielded impressing results, as dangerous weapons and drugs were seized in different schools.
Monitoring trading of liquor around Mthatha is also business of the week, and continue to yield positive results, as litres of liquor have been confiscated from various non-complying traders of liquor.
The foot soldiers maintain high visibility as they continue with blue light patrols, with stop and search, in shopping malls, taxi ranks and other corners in the Mthatha CBD and surrounding areas.
The multi-dimensional activities are anticipated to continue until Friday, 4 March 2022.
