Multi-disciplinary Operation Vala Umgodi yields success in Roodepoort

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Roodepoort conducted a provincial operation, Vala Umgodi on Monday, 09 September 2024. Targeting illegal mining, undocumented foreign nationals, crime, and liquor compliance in Matholesville, Dunuza, and Tshepisong in Roodepoort, Johannesburg District.

The operation resulted in: two suspects arrested for possession of gold-bearing materials, one suspect arrested for dealing in liquor without a license, with 129610 ml of various liquors seized and 15 suspects arrested as illegal immigrants.

Property found and seized during the operation includes:

1 x Generator

3 x 13.9 kg Oxygen cylinders

2 x Cutting Torches

4 x Stamper pots

151 x Steel balls

12 x Plastic dishes

1 x Helmet

1 x Hammer

1 x Sift

1 x Motorbike chain

2 x Steel chains

4 x Stampers

9 x Pendukas

The operation was a collaborative effort between SAPS members in Roodepoort, Mondeor, Tactical Response Team, Public Order Policing, Mobile unit and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).

The SAPS is committed to addressing these crimes and ensuring a safer community.
