In a significant move to boost youth empowerment, the Ministry of Youth Affairs (MOYA) will provide 200 kekehs (three-wheeled vehicles) to young people across Sierra Leone within the next two weeks. The announcement was made by Minister of Youth Affairs Mohamed Orman Bangura during a ceremony held on International Youth Day at the Sierra Palms Hotel on Beach Road, Aberdeen, on 12th August 2024.

Minister Bangura disclosed that the kekehs, generously funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), are part of a comprehensive strategy to support youth development and promote sustainable livelihoods. This initiative, with the support of the UNDP, offers practical opportunities for young people to engage in productive activities and enhance their economic stability.

Minister Bangura also launched a new youth platform of significant scale, focused on generating 500 jobs nationwide at the event. He highlighted that approximately 30% of this job creation target has already been met under the New Directio
n Government led by President Julius Maada Bio. The platform is part of the government’s broader efforts to address youth unemployment and align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The distribution of the kekehs and the job creation platform are critical components of the government’s commitment to fostering youth empowerment and economic development throughout Sierra Leone.
