GQEBERHA - In order to win the war against crime and render a professional service to our communities, it is crucial for the SAPS and private security companies to work together in tightening our grip on crime and criminals.
In a joint effort by a private security company and members of SAPS Mount Road, three alleged robbery suspects were arrested after a 15-year-old scholar was robbed of her cellphone while walking in 2nd Avenue in Newton Park, yesterday afternoon, 30 May 2022. It is alleged that at about 12:00, the suspects approached the teenager, threatened her and grabbed her cellphone. A patrolling security official witnessed the incident and chased after the suspects. He succeeded in arresting an 18-year-old male. While the suspects were running, they threw the cellphone on the ground.
At the same time, SAPS Mount Road Vispol Task Team members assisted by their Crime Prevention members noticed the commotion and stopped to enquire. Further investigations led the team to a house in Shauder Avenue in Holland Park. The second suspect (18) was found standing in the yard. The third suspect (19) was also arrested at his house in Shauder Avenue.
The suspects are detained on a charge of robbery and are expected to appear in the Gqeberha magistrate court during the week.
Working in collaboration with SAPS and security companies are crucial ingredients needed to win the war against crime and keeping our communities safe.
