POTCHEFSTROOM – Motswedi police apprehended a 23-year-old man after he allegedly killed his 21-year-old girlfriend on Saturday, 04 September 2021, at Gopane Village outside Zeerust. It is alleged that the couple were from a local tavern when they had a quarrel.
Allegations further state that the suspect yanked the victim to the nearby bushes where he assaulted and strangled her. Subsequently, he went home leaving the girlfriend’s lifeless body in the bushes. The suspect disclosed the incident to his mother who went to the police station to report.
Police went to investigate and discovered the body. The suspect was arrested and charged with murder. He is expected to appear in the Lehurutse Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 07 September 2021.
The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, condemned the incident and congratulated the Motswedi Detectives for acting fast in arresting the suspect. The Provincial Commissioner instructed the detectives to make sure that they oppose bail.
