Morning Star community on the road to safety

The City’s Road Infrastructure Management Department is currently busy with the construction of a fence between Langeberg Road and Keilstert Street adjacent to the Morning Star Housing development in Durbanville. The works will take two weeks to complete pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather.

The fence will be approximately 140 meters long.

Alderman Theresa Uys, in her capacity as the local Ward Councillor, asked for the construction of the fence as a safety measure for the Morning Star housing development residents and road users.

‘Fencing was not part of the original housing development, however, I motivated for one after observing the safety risks associated with living next to the busy Langeberg Road. We pride ourselves as being the safe City. Thus, the City had to do something to safeguard our residents against unpredictable consequences. I started talking to my colleagues from Urban Mobility and although it took longer than anticipated, I am happy to see the fence going up. This will go a long way in protecting our most vulnerable residents, the children and the elderly,’ said the local Ward Councillor, Alderman Uys.

Alderman Uys reminded residents that they are primarily responsible for their own safety. Thus, they will still need to be vigilant when moving around the area.

‘I am pleased that Urban Mobility can give operational and financial support to a project of this nature. Not only does it speak to us prioritising the safety of our communities, it also epitomises collaboration with internal departments to develop appropriate service delivery methods to the benefit of our residents. We are investing time and money in the advancement of the welfare of our communities,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
