More than R400 000 in cash confiscated at Oshoek Border Post

The Provincial Head of the Directorate For Priority Crime Investigation Major General Gerber, applauded the vigilance of our counterparts from Border Management Authority, who acted with integrity when they searched and arrested a 39-year-old South African, who was caught in the act of attempting to cross the border of South Africa into Swaziland jumping through the fence when the determined members stopped and searched him.

He was holding a black plastic bag containing a cash amount of R424 800 which was found and seized.

Information was escalated to the Hawks Secunda based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation who took over the crime scene. During interrogation, the suspect was questioned about the money and its origin and where it was taken to. He failed to give clear explanation. It was also discovered that the money was not declared as per FIC Act 38 of 2001 in terms of section 54 read with section 30. He was then arrested, charged with possession of suspected stolen property. The money was seized a
nd booked in the SAP 13. The suspect is expected to appear before the Elukwatini Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 25 September 2024. Investigation continues.
