The multi-disciplinary team under Operation Vala Umgodi are making a significant impact through police action comprising of visiting, inspecting and monitoring all illegal mining sites across the province.
On 08 September 2024, an integrated team comprising SAPS Mopani members, Airwing (drone) and SANDF conducted an intelligence driven operation.
The team proceeded to Moduba old mining shafts in Mopani District.
The Illegal mining site is situated on top of the mountain and the team deployed tactically after they spotted illegal miners.
The team ascended the mountain and the suspects started running in different directions. One suspect, aged 42, was found and subsequently put under arrest and will be facing charges ranging from possession of suspected precious minerals and illegal possession of live ammunition of an assault rifle.

* 55 × bags of suspected precious minerals.

* 01 × Shovel
* 01 × Spade
* 01 × Pick
* 01 × Black quest Mobi

* 01 × Welding helmet
* 01 × LG Spark Plug
The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest and commended the members for dedication to their duties.
