Ministry of Mines and Minerals Resources Discusses Critical Challenges and Capacity Building at Manpower Hearing

The Ministry of Mines and Minerals Resources, in collaboration with the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO), held a pivotal meeting on the upcoming 2025 manpower hearing at the Civic Education and Training Center.

The meeting featured key presentations from Dr. John Davide Cooper, Director of Policy and Research, and Mr. Hashiru Alhassan, Human Resource Officer. Dr. Cooper provided an overview of the ministry’s crucial role in policy formulation and sector management. He highlighted ongoing efforts to build the capacity of ministry staff and stakeholders through training programs, workshops, and knowledge-sharing initiatives. Notably, Dr. Cooper announced that seven staff members from the ministry would soon travel to China for capacity-building training.

Dr Cooper also addressed the ministry’s significant challenges, including inadequate budget support from the Ministry of Finance, outdated technological tools, poor internet connectivity, and a lack of functional vehicles that hampers staff mobility.

n his analysis, Mr. Alhassan discussed the Human Resource Planning (HRP) forms, outlining the professional designations and challenges within the ministry. He underscored the pressing issues of environmental degradation, climate change, and pollution affecting the sector. Mr. Alhassan also proposed the creation of a new post for a Director of Environmental Management, though the proposal was deferred pending further review.
