Koinadugu: The Ministry of Gender and Children's Affairs (MoGCA) has inaugurated a vital Safe Home for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) in Koinadugu District. This facility represents a critical advance in providing survivor-centered protection, delivering immediate shelter, psychosocial support, and comprehensive referral services. The initiative marks a profound commitment to restoring dignity and forging pathways to recovery for vulnerable women and children. According to Sierra Leone News Agency, the official ceremony, held on February 3, 2026, underscored the government's sustained priority to combat GBV. Senior ministry leadership including the Chief Director, Permanent Secretary, and National GBV Coordinator personally attended, highlighting national resolve to strengthen local support systems. This essential facility was realized through primary funding from the international NGO Médecins du Monde. Its establishment was driven by the leadership of the Ministry's Assistant Director and the co ordinated efforts of the District GBV Steering Committee, with technical support from the Ministry's national team and key local stakeholders. Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Minister, Chief Director Mr. Charles Vandi outlined the Ministry's strategic progress. He detailed foundational laws, policies, and frameworks enacted to empower the national GBV response. 'Safe Homes across our nation are central to our strategy-upholding survivor dignity, resilience, and hope,' Vandi stated.
