The Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Thoko Didiza, will handover agricultural inputs and equipment to the Sokhulumi Agri-village on the 24th May 2022. Sokhulumi Agri-village is one of the Agri-villages in Tshwane under the City of Tshwane Agripark programme earmarked for support by the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development.
The Minister will hand over the agricultural inputs and equipment worth over R12 732 372 to Sokhulumi Agri-village as part of the departmental farmer support programme to assist small scale farmers to maximise agricultural production, maintain their supply contracts, create jobs, enhance food security, stimulate agro-industrialisation and help to grow our economy.
This initiative emanates from the outcome of a study that was conducted by Urban-Econ, a specialist-consulting firm in the arena of development economics, to look at viable commodities which can form part of the master plan for a possible Agri-Park in the City of Tshwane. The study identified suitable commodities for each Agri-village based on among others, climatic conditions, land use capabilities and economic factors.
This year the department has spent a total of R32 732 372 million to support Sokhulumi Agri-Park, Rooiwal Agri-Park and Winterveldt Agri-Park.
