The Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD), Ms Thoko Didiza, will on 15th October 2021 commemorate World Food Day (WFD) 2021.
This year, 2021 marks the 41 years of the celebration of the WFD. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) chose 16 October as World Food Day in 1979. The World Food Day is commemorated yearly to promote global awareness and advocate collective action to assist those who suffer from hunger and highlights the need to ensure healthy diets for all.
The objectives of the webinar, amongst others, is to heighten public awareness on issues of poverty, hunger and malnutrition in the world and in the country and to further raise awareness on the different produces that constitute a balanced diet.
The webinar will also share with the public in general and the agricultural sector on issues of climate change and its effects on the sector, create awareness regarding climate smart agriculture, climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction.
